Obituary

Violetta R. Lyons, 72, formerly of Cohoes, died on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at her daughters home, surrounded by the family who loved her. Born in Troy, Violetta had resided in Florida since 1974 before returning to Cohoes in 1982. She held several positions of employment over her lifetime including working as a nurses aide at Green Cove Spring Hospital and a milk maid at Gustafsons Dairy both in Florida. When she returned to the Capital District she worked at Van Rensselaer Manor for over 20 years retiring in 2006. Her biggest achievement in life was raising her six kids! Violetta was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas Lyons who died in 2008 and a daughter, Violetta Marie Cooney. She is survived by five of her children: Kent Charles DeShaw of Jacksonville, FL, John Paul DeShaw (Amy) of Cohoes, Bernard DeShaw (Darcie Huneau) of Malta, Tammy Meyer (Robert) of Porters Corners and Jack DeShaw (Dawn) of Cohoes, her aunt, Mamie Smail of East Greenbush, as well as 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday morning, October 9th, at 10 oclock from the Chapel of the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th St.), Troy, NY, with Father Randall Patterson, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 PM. Interment in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands, NY.
