Obituary

TROY –

Theresa J. Agars, 97, a lifelong resident of Troy, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at the Van Rensselaer Manor.

She was born on March 15, 1928, a daughter of the late Sebastiano and Giovanna (Staglino) Carello. Theresa attended local schools and worked for RPI in the dining hall as a supervisor for 30 years until retirement. She was a member of the Troy Elks Club and the Troy Italian American Community Center. Theresa enjoyed her girls group playing cards and she was also a member of the Tuesday Strikers Bowling League at Uncle Sam's Lanes.

Theresa was the devoted wife of the late Alfred W. Agars, whom she married on November 5, 1950 at the former St. Francis Church in Troy. He predeceased her in 1986. She was the loving mother of the late Ann Marie Garner who passed away on January 23, 2024 . She is survived by her son in law Michael V. Garner. Theresa was the grandmother of William (Julia) Garner, Sr. and great grandmother of: Caleb, Melode, William Jr., Riley, Jaxson and Emily. Aunt Theresa is also survived by many nieces and nephews in both the Agars and Carello Families.

In addition to her parents and her daughter, Theresa was predeceased by her sister in law, Mary Ellen Agars, and all of her siblings: sister Grace (Carello) Clemente and brothers: Anthony, Nicholas, Russell, Joseph, Frederick and Salvatore Carello.

Relatives and Friends are invited to call from 10AM until 12PM on Monday, August 11, 2025 in the Chapel of the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) Troy, NY 12180, where a Funeral Service will commence at 12 o'clock in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy. All are welcomed.
