Obituary

TROY –
Troy bids a fond farewell to one of its lifelong residents, Richard S. Ratigan, Sr. , who passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
Born in Troy on April 16, 1935, Richard was the son of the late John W. and Helen (Galligan) Ratigan. He received his education locally, attending Troy Public School No. 14 and Troy High School. A proud Korean War Veteran, Richard dedicated eight years of honorable service to the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he established a long and dedicated career at the Behr-Manning (Norton) Company in Watervliet, where he retired after 40 years of employment.
Richard will be fondly remembered for his deep appreciation of the outdoors. Whether casting a fishing line or engaging in tasks around his home like mowing the lawn and gardening, he found joy in nature. Above all, his greatest love was always his family.
He was the devoted husband of 65 years to his beloved wife, Carol Frances (Kyea) Ratigan, whom he married on February 13, 1960, at the former St. Barnabas Lutheran Church in Troy. He was a loving father to Richard, Jr. (Lisa); a cherished grandfather to Sean; and a doting great-grandfather to Bennett, Emmarie, and Elloise. Richard is also survived by his two dear sisters, Helen Reinhard and Mary Torncello, and several adored nieces and nephews.
Private immediate family to honor Richard's memory and call from 10 AM until 12 PM on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in the Chapel of the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street), Troy, NY 12180. A Funeral Service will commence at 12 o'clock in the funeral home. Procession and committal will follow with Military Honors at 2:30 PM in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are kindly requested to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or online at www.stjude.org . Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the Ratigan Family online at TheRiverviewFuneralHome.com.
