Mary Ann Daly

With profound sadness, the family of Mary Ann Daly, 90, from Waterford, New York, announces her passing on August 26, 2026.  Born on June 17, 1936, Mary Ann had joyfully celebrated her 90th birthday earlier this year.  

Mary Ann devoted more than 57 years to her work as an ICU nurse and was nominated for the prestigious Nurse of Distinction award in 1989. Her compassion, steadiness, and dedication touched many lives.  She embraced life with curiosity and delight – traveling often, knitting mittens for loved ones and for those who were homeless, enjoying music and dancing, taking daily walks, and baking apple pies. She watched the news faithfully and never missed an episode of American Idol or Dancing with the Stars. She completed word search puzzles and savored her favorite treat, ice cream, every day without fail. Her favorite holiday was April Fools’ Day, for which she planned jokes weeks in advance. Mary Ann was a devoted member of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Waterford.  

Mary Ann was predeceased by her parents, Cyretha M. and Harry E. Hurlburt; her husband, John Daly; her twin brother, William Hurlburt; and her devoted niece, Christine Williamson Ladd. 

She is survived by her children: Christopher Daly and Marlene Hyer of California; Heather Daly and Shawn Allen; Jennifer and Craig Davids of Schodack, New York; and Stephanie and Daniel Cahill of Troy, New York. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Haley and Frank Schroeder, Isabel Cahill, Hamilton Davids, Lilly Cahill, and Daniel Cahill; niece Deborah Ann Hurlbert; and nephew Dwight Hurlburt; as well as her dear friend Barbara Kennedy.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. A mass to celebrate Mary Ann’s life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 11:30 am at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford, New York. Those wishing to honor Mary Ann may donate to causes meaningful to her: Type 1 diabetes research in honor of her granddaughter Isabel, or Capital City Mission, supporting individuals experiencing homelessness.  As difficult as this loss is, her family finds comfort in knowing she is reunited with her beloved husband. She missed him deeply, and we can only imagine the joy of their reunion. Until we meet again.
