Irene B. Hegarty, 100 passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at VanRensselaer Manor after a short illness. Irene was born in Troy, daughter of the late Herbert J. and Jennie E. Green King. Except for a 20-year period when she lived in East Troy, Wisconsin, Irene was a lifelong resident of Troy, NY. Irenes employment history was wide and varied; she worked for the Fuller Brush Co., also as a crossing guard for St. Patricks school in Troy, as a food service staffer in both Emma Willard and LaSalle Institute; she also served as a nanny for the children of several medical students from the Philippines. Irene enjoyed spending time with her family, loved to travel especially to Florida and in quiet times enjoyed knitting. Irene was predeceased by her first husband, Myles J. Walsh, her daughter, Annina Sylvester and her five siblings: Jennie Duncan, Eva Pitcher, Herbert A. King, Eugene H. King and John J. King. Irene is survived by her husband of 48 years William Bill Hegarty of Troy, her son, Thomas M. Walsh and daughter, Arlene C. Dinova both of Troy, NY. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Irene will be celebrated on Monday, April 23rd at 10:30 AM at St. Henrys Church, 39 Old Route 66, Averill Park, NY 12018. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th St.) Lansingbugh, on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM. Interment will follow the mass in Eagle Mills Cemetery.
