TROY, N.Y. —
Charlotte L. McClellan, 86, of Troy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, leaving behind grace, kindness, and a memorable sense of humor.
Born in York, Pennsylvania, on February 2, 1939, Charlotte was the daughter of the late Lewis W. Sutton and Virginia C. Kahley. She was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband of 59 years, John Franklin McClellan Sr.; her beloved daughter, Elaine; and her sister, Lleuwana Sutton.
Charlotte and John Sr. were united in marriage on June 30, 1962, in Troy, New York. Together, they built a life rooted in love, happiness, loyalty and — most importantly — humor. Their shared laughter and ability to respectfully poke fun was the foundation of a marriage that inspired all who knew them. A McClellan family meal was not complete without Charlotte finding herself in a fit of giggles.
Charlotte always looked for joy and found it easily. She spent many years of her life dedicated to raising her young sons, and later enjoyed meeting customers and new friends at The Repetique Shop. After her retirement, Charlotte spent her time exploring her favorite hobbies. Her puzzle table was never empty, and she never met a word puzzle or game that she didn’t like. She spent time each day scrolling through her GrandPad, learning fun facts and rewatching her favorite videos of her “GGBabies.” She was especially fond of watching “Gone With the Wind,” “The Thorn Birds” and, more recently, “The Big Bang Theory.”
She is survived by her sons, John McClellan Jr. and his wife Rebecca, of Waterford, and Joel McClellan and his wife Michelle, of Troy. She is also survived by her unique and loving brother, Rodger Sutton (Ruth), of West Sand Lake, as well as sister-in-law Eleanor Remillard of Troy. Charlotte was lovingly “Aunt Larla” to several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Charlotte was a witty, wise, and affectionate grandmother to Katie Gamache (Thomas);, Catherine Spann;, Robert Demetros (Amber);, Morgan Lynch (Michael);,and Spencer McClellan (Kaylie). She was the very proud GGMa to Thomas and Roman;, Florence and Philip;, Hunter and Gwendolyn;, Ava Adele;, and Nova Noelle.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Charlotte’s name to the Pleasantdale Volunteer Fire Department, located at 1178 River Rd., Troy, New York 12182
